Earthy Shino Type Glaze

These are some new pieces that have my Sahara glaze on them.  It is a shino type glaze that crystalizes nicely when it is put on thick and cooled slowly.  I like to put a band of oxide on the rim of bowls that have this glaze because it usually bleeds down into the bowl.

New Glaze

This is a new glaze combination that came out really cool.  I first put on a thin coat by dipping it into a tenmoku glaze and then after letting that dry I dip it in my ocean blue glaze for about 5 seconds.

Glaze Testing

I have been working on developing a good iron red  and a satin white glaze that I like which fires to cone 8.  I think I found what I have been looking for in this red.  Instead of red iron oxide I have been using CM.

I like the white on the second cup.  It is one of Steven Hills recipes.  It came out more glossy than satin though because I took it up to cone 8.  I also like what happens when it overlaps with the red.

The satin white that I liked is on this cup.  It is a variation of an old Hamada recipe.

Architectural Vase

This is a new vase that I took out of the kiln last week.  It is built out of slabs of clay.   Building it without the slabs torquing or bending too much can be tricky.  Sorry about the blurry photos...I must have dropped kicked the phone too much.

I love making these chip and dip pieces which have become a hit.  The shape of the main dish and dip  dishes constantly change.

This summer I did some pieces for a design house in Dana Point.  This is the banded bowl I did for an  orchid display.

Some new work with my favorite blue glaze and white Nuka like glaze.
